MAY

Garden Update
Inside:
  • Rosemary sadly succumbed to her illness. I’ll have to get a replacement. I use too much rosemary for cooking not to have a plant.

  • I’m done with all my indoor seedlings this year. Woo hoo!!
Outside:
  • Our peas are still plugging away. No blooms yet. I’m thinking I’ll have to pull them soon just to get my tomatoes out of the green house and in the ground. I was hoping for some peas. Maybe next year.

  • The celery seems to be doing well. I’m going to have to look up how and when to harvest them again, with this being my first time growing celery and all.

  • I gave up trying to “trellis” the raspberries and just let them grow how they want. They seem happier that way. I may work on them this fall, or next spring, but for now, they’re going wild-ish.

  • I never did bury my compost. Completely forgot to before Goomba and I planted her cabbage there. Oh well. Maybe some extra time in the bucket will do it good.

  • My carrots, all three varieties, are coming up nicely. I wish I hadn’t planted them in the other half of the herb garden, but all worked out. I have a second herb garden going with the hyssop, cumin, chamomile, catnip and summer savory now. The marjoram, calendula and lemon balm are all in the original herb garden, growing well.

  • The strawberries are growing and blooming like crazy. I expect to have enough to make jam by the end of the month, first week of June at the latest.

  • Just harvested the first cuttings of thyme, oregano, sage and mint for drying.

  • The onions and chives got planted in containers. I didn’t want to risk them getting pulled up or being mistaken with all the wild onion grass that we have still plaguing the garden.

  • The lettuce is touch and go, still being in the green house and drying out every now and again. I’ve got some, so here’s to hoping it stays!
